Isetta Psychotherapy and Associates specializes in children, adolescents, adults, and family therapy in Hermosa Beach.

Dr. Isetta and her associates use talk therapy using cognitive behavioral techniques and a family systems approach when working with an individual.   For any issues you present, Dr. Isetta likes to look at the issue from every angle.  By using strategies to alleviate any current stressors or symptoms, you can begin to address the underlying problem.  Looking at patterns, past trauma, and history of issue can help you become aware of why you respond the way you do, and start creating new patterns and changes in behavior, bringing about real positive change.

CHildRen & Adolescents

Dr. Isetta uses play therapy, workbooks and art therapy as tools when working with children and adolescents. She finds this helps address the issues that arise in a child without making them feel uncomfortable, overwhelmed or uneasy about therapy.

Individual and Couples therapy is used with adults in conjunction with family therapy when needed.  Here you will learn to identify the core issues in your life and ways to deal with the negative thoughts, emotions and behaviors that stand in your way.

Family therapy is offered in a variety of ways at Dr. Isetta and Associates.  Family Therapy is offered to families that are struggling within the entire family and need to address specific issues that come up either in crisis or trauma.

Children and Adolescents

Dr. Isetta uses a variety of ways to help address child and adolescent issues.  The most important component in the beginning of therapy with children and adolescents is creating a safe and comfortable environment for them.  Since this may be their first time in therapy, feelings of anxiety and uncertainty of what to expect may occur.  Dr. Isetta helps put them at ease by discussing the benefits of therapy and how to make it comfortable for them and their needs.

Typically with young children, using play and art therapy allows the child to feel comfortable while having fun tackling the pressing issues at hand.  Sometimes, they do not even realize they are doing therapy because it is presented in such a nonthreatening way.

For the older tween and adolescents, Dr. Isetta may use workbooks or other tools to help them communicate how they are feeling.  At times, teens may not know exactly why they are feeling a certain way, but just know that they do.  Dr. Isetta tries to use books and tools to help them identify what is causing the underlying issue this helps get to the root of the problem and give immediate solutions.

With the increase in demands of our teens, having a safe and positive environment to address these issues can be extremely beneficial for them.  Oftentimes, teens needs a space away from peers, family and social media to address what is going on and gain a different perspective of their life.

Family Therapy

Dr. Isetta uses family therapy in a variety of different ways depending on the family's needs. Family therapy can be set up from the beginning or later in therapy, if there is specific issue the family would like to address together.

With Children and Adolescents, Family Therapy may be an essential part of the process.  Dr. Isetta requests that both parents be involved in treatment whenever possible.  Before meeting with the child or adolescent, Dr. Isetta will usually set up the initial meeting with both parents. This way, she can obtain the history of your family and child without any issues of breaking confidentiality.  This session will also help to discuss how therapy may look with your child.  During the course of treatment, issues may arise that would benefit from a family session.  Dr. Isetta will discuss this with the child or adolescent, in order to help them discuss and formulate what they would like to say. Dr. Isetta finds adolescents discover it helpful to have meetings with her and the parents together so they are able to articulate exactly how they are feeling with her help. Dr. Isetta will help facilitate the dialogue to create an increase in communication and change.  Meetings can be held with the entire family, parents, parents and child and/or siblings.
