Regan Smithweiss, AMFT
AMFT #152248
Regan offers a space where individuals can show up as they are, free of judgment. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and direct with a touch of humor, holding space for the hard stuff while keeping therapy real and meaningful. She understands that traditional talk therapy is not for everyone, so she integrates creative interventions such as cinematherapy, art, and interactive tools to make sessions more engaging. Before becoming a therapist, Regan worked in the film and television industry for major studios including FX Networks and Marvel. Her love of storytelling shapes her approach, and she enjoys using film and television to help clients explore their narratives, emotions, and perspectives.
She has extensive experience supporting teenagers facing suicidal thoughts and self-harm, traumatic grief, body dysmorphia, neurodivergence, and the aftermath of sexual assault. Adolescence is a time of intense emotions, identity exploration, and struggles with self-worth. Regan also provides an affirming space for LGBTQ+ youth navigating identity, family acceptance, and societal pressures. For those dealing with family challenges such as estrangement, separation, or restructuring after divorce and coping with its lasting effects, Regan helps clients process emotions, strengthen communication, and rebuild trust.
With over five years of experience working with neurodivergent children, adolescents, and their families, including training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Regan recognizes that everyone processes the world differently. Therapy is not one size fits all; she adapts to what works best for each client. Much of her work centers on how early experiences shape self-perception and emotional patterns. Healing is not about fixing what is wrong; it is about understanding yourself in a way that fosters real change.
Regan has in-depth knowledge of complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) and how it can appear in ways that are not always obvious. This may include perfectionism that feels like survival, relationships that mirror old wounds, or a constant sense of walking on eggshells. Trauma can leave the body at war with itself, creating overwhelming emotions, struggles with self-image, or thoughts too heavy to speak aloud. Regan’s goal is not just coping; she helps clients release these patterns to create lasting change.
A South Bay native and South High alumna from Torrance, Regan understands the unique challenges of the community she serves. She offers both in-person and virtual therapy sessions to accommodate different needs and preferences. You do not have to figure it all out alone. If you are feeling stuck, Regan offers a space where you can begin healing on your terms and in your own way.
Outside of therapy, she enjoys yoga, cooking (but hates cleaning), playing video games, and going to live
